The mission of the congregation at Jacksons Grove has been to extend our hand to the community in which we live and then to the world at large to aid when ever and where ever we are able. A major portion of our budget is directed to that purpose. In the past year, we have supported and aided many causes both near and far.
Bethlehem Center, Spartanburg, SC - supports this interracial Agency’s work that addresses and seeks to improve conditions and meet the needs of community members such as: inadequate housing, unpaved streets, insufficient care for preschool children and high juvenile delinquency.
Camp Care Nursing Home, Inman - provide year-round contact with residents at Camp Care Nursing Home in Inman, SC. that includes “Communion Services”, Christmas gifts and other Holiday visitations. Also, provides money for monthly Haircuts for 25 or more of the residents.
Cancer - participates in the local annual “Relay For Life” event of the American Cancer Society.
Christmas Jail Ministry - each year the inmates of the Polk County Jail receive a visit from JGUMC on Christmas eve that includes a gift bag of cookies, candies and fruits. Additionally, the following receive similar gift bags: St. Lukes Emergency Room Staff, EMS “one duty” staff, local Fire and Police Officers that are on duty.
Habitat For Humanity - contributes to this organization’s expenses as they seek to build 3 homes each year for qualifying low-income families.
Hospice Of The Carolina Foothills - provide funds for the local Hospice unit.
Kids To Camp - provides camping items for needy children so that they might enjoy a period at Camp Tekowa, a Methodist Camp in North Carolina. Seven children have been helped over the last 3 years.
Operation Hope, Landrum - supporting their program of providing food, clothing and, in some cases, “counseling”.
Ronald McDonald House, Columbia, SC - supports this facility for recuperating children and their families through the collection of aluminum “pull taps”.
Steps To Hope - this Agency assists families that have domestic problems. JGUMC provides Christmas gifts for 2 or more families each year.
Thanksgiving Project - carried out with referrals from Meals On Wheels and School officials, provides Thanksgiving Dinner for multiple families in Polk County and upstate SC.
UMCOR - contributes to the United Methodist Committee on Overseas Relief agency that responds to world-wide emergencies. Recent contributions were for the victims of the El Salvador Hurricane, the New York Relief Fund, and India Relief.
